Grey like the sky these days, but with a spot of sunshine.

A very nice customer contacted me last month, and asked if I could create a new daisy blanket for her friend who is heading off to college next year. One of the reasons I like working with customers is because they sometimes push me in a different direction I might not go on my own. I love color, but I do enjoy the subdued shades as well. I think it turned out quite pretty.

I used Caron One Pound Soft Grey (2 skeins), White (1 skein) and Yellow (1 skein).

Click here for my daisy pattern.

It was fun to work with her and meet someone new. I have been blessed to meet so many genuine and nice people over the years since I opened this little shop. I really enjoy that part.

Hope every one is staying warm on this December day.

Radiant Roses

On a rainy Sunday, I am finishing a new blanket for a customer. It is one I created a few years ago based on a vintage blanket and my rose pattern here. I will try to get a new post up with the last few rounds I used to make it into a granny square soon.

I used Red Heart's petal pink, pretty in pink, white and glow worm.

I hope it sends some color and sunshine your way. Happy Sunday!

Garden flower sampler

Just finished up a new blanket for a customer. She is having a little boy and doing a garden theme nursery. We added a bee, bird, butterfly and lady bug! It was fun to customize it for her. She was a very creative client and knew what she wanted. It reminded me how much I enjoy working up these samplers...I will have to do more soon...maybe with some new colors?

Happy Friday!

Happy 2014.

It's been way too long since my last post, but life has kept me busy, and this little empty blog has had to suffer. I hope to be a better post-er now that the kids are both in school. I hope everyone has been having a wonderful new year so far.

I'm working on a couple of new custom orders: a pretty 3D daisy blanket in coral, and another "citrine blanket", similar to one I've done in the past with a more muted, earthy palette.

This one is going to be a coverlet for a double sized bed, so I have a long way to go, but I just love these colors together. Speaking of, I am using Lion Brand Gold Fish and Sweet Pea, Red Heart's Cornmeal and a discontinued Robin's Egg, as well as Bernat Aqua.

Have a lovely Sunday!

New custom order...pretty pansies

A special customer down in Texas, who I have worked with over the years (has it really been years?), requested a special blanket using the pattern from Leisure Arts #100318, Afghans for All Seasons, Book 1. It's called "Pretty Pansies", and they really are.

She wanted colors similar to the photo, but on a white background, so this is what I came up with:
(I used Caron One pound in white, jonquil, light blue, lavender, lilac; Vanna's Choice in sweet pea; and Red Heart's pretty in pink.)

She was happy with the samples, so off I go...

Happy weekend!

It's been a hoot.

I finished the parts to my last two hats. My customer requested purple and turquoise-y-blue, so here is the (almost) finished owl.

The elephant is also coming together. Once again, I still need to sew up all of these parts, but I'm pleased with how my ears turned out as well as the little trunk. My customer, Michelle, and I don't care for a droopy trunk hanging from a hat, so I lightly stuffed, then sewed a connection to turn it upward. I think it will look much better when I can attach it to the hat. (Note: I've read an elephant with an upward turned trunk is good luck anyway :)

I think they've all turned out (so far) much like the schematic I drew up. I hope Michelle likes them too!

Hope you have a lovely evening.

This little piggy...

I started working on the pig first.

Here she is deconstructed:

I still need to finish her snout and work a sc or hdc band for the bow.

And of course weave in all of those ends... I leave long tails, so that I can sew every together with them. My customer also requested earflaps, so I ditched the scalloped edge in my rendering. I'll add some ties to the flaps after I finish sewing her all together.

(I used Caron One Pound Pink and Black and a mill end light pink I had for the inner ear - name unknown - I used Red Heart Shocking Pink for the bow and edging).

Happy Sunday!

Pink (shasta) daisy blanket is finished!

I completed Lynette's afghan this morning. She let me decide how to edge it, so I chose a hdc of white and a sc of the pink. Subtle. I like subtle, even though the blanket screams pink sunshine!

It's a true pleasure to create these blankets for such nice people. I can't say enough about all of the very nice customers I've been fortunate enough to meet.

On a side note, I've obviously been a little tied up with work, family and tillie tulip, but I will get part II of my join-as-you-go tutorial up as soon as I can!

Hot treasury

Today Julee from UnrulyJulee featured my hot pink and orange blanket in a treasury appropriately named "pretty in hot pink".

I think I need those heart sunglasses just to view this treasury! Love it. Thanks Julee.

Feeling nostalgic

These  past two projects have been so fresh and vibrant, but I'm finding myself in an antique-y mood, so I started working on a new blanket with that in mind. I'm using lots of rose colored yarns, some of the lighter variety and some dark - dusty rose, antique rose, blush, rose, dark rose, etc. I think I will add some roses to it, but this is where I'm at so far...

As I worked up this blanket, I thought about my great Aunt Tillie, whom my daughter and (partially) my shop is named after. She died when she was only a little girl, but I always loved this little pin my mother had with a picture of her on it. Sadly, I believe it's the only photograph we have of her. My mother gave me the pin after my Tillie was born.

Ka-bam!

Well, here is the pile of squares for the latest blanket. An homage to Lilly Pulitzer (and some on-line imagery that screams spring and sunshine, among other things). Definitely need the sunglasses for this one.

Finished!

I finished up my custom order today. I really like how the blanket turned out. I probably wouldn't have paired some of the colors together if my customer had not requested it, but I love how they look together. I hope she likes it too...

I'm inspired to look outside of my noggin at tangible color pairings for my next creation. I love Lilly Pulitzer (if only I could afford her), and I found this grouping in an old post over at the french tangerine. It'll be a Pulitzer/tillie tulip mash up...stay tuned...

Sarah from Recycled Fibers featured one of my custom granny square blankets in her treasury:

I LOVE all of the color! Makes it feel more like spring and less like winter. Thanks Sarah!
