Several people have asked to explain how I added the border to the daisy square. Here are some photos showing how I do it.
Round 1: Attach new color with a slip stitch to any ch 2 space. Ch 2 (counts as first dc), 2 double crochet (dc), ch 1, 3 dc (corner made).
Into next two spaces: 3 dc
Into next space: 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc (next corner made)
Continue around: 3 dc in next two spaces, and 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc (corner) until you get to the beg ch 2. Slip stitch into top of ch 2.
If you would like to continue, Round 2: slip to corner space and beg with ch 2, 2 dc, ch1, 3 dc, then * 3 dc into next 3 spaces, 3dc, ch 1, 3 dc * repeat from * around and join with a slip stitch.
So, there you have it! I hope that makes sense and happy hooking!
Thank you for the tutorial! Your pictures make it look very simple.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,

Thanks for the tutorial. I figured it out last night when I made mine check it out on my blog if you like. http://thecraftyhomeschoolmom.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! Following you too. Happy Sunday :)
DeleteThank you re3ally great pattern!
ReplyDeleteWhen i'm done with an other blanket i'm going to make one with these.
Hey! I never was into grannies UNTIL I saw your tutorial ^^! You made it so beautiful!! I will try this when I have some spare time! Thank you for putting this online!! Xxxx
ReplyDeleteLove this pattern! Can you tell me what size hook you used? My practice square was very big. Yours looks smaller in the pictures. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Mommavols, Glad you like the pattern, it's a fun one to do. The hook I most always use (because I work with a lot of medium and worsted weight yarns) is a size I. These particular squares (with 2 rounds as shown) are approximately 6". I like to work a tighter tension, so this could factor into your final size as well.
DeleteThank you for your reply. I have one more question. Your daisy seems to be raised on the square. Almost 3-D. Mine are looking flat on the square. Can you tell me what I might be doing wrong? Thanks very much!
ReplyDeleteHi Mommavols, The flowers are slightly raised. Not sure why yours would be flat or flush. Possibly a lighter weight yarn or a looser tension?
DeleteThanks. I realized I needed to use a different yarn. Now they are raised! Thanks very much for your help!
DeleteI realise this is a year old, however if anyone else sit and look at these pretty afghan´s and cant get the pedals to pop like me.
DeleteMy solution was to use 4 instead 3 treble (tc)for peddals, before dooing the "unhook" part.
Love how three dimensional your daisies are. Your blankets are so lovely. I am working on squares for my first joined squares blanket. I'm doing a sampler, though, so who knows how it will turn out!
ReplyDeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, congratulations for your lovely blog.
And second, love your daisy blankets! :D Just so cute and beautiful!
Thank you so much for the note and stopping by. This blog is a work in progress, and unfortunately is not my full time job (I wish)! One of these days I will have a bit more time to spend with it. Until then, I try to keep up with it as best I can.
DeleteI hope you have a very nice weekend!
Tilli, I would love to make a video tutorial for people like me who need a visual push. Would that be alright with you? I have worked 2.5 Squares and no longer need to go back to your photots for help, and I think a video will help a lot of newbies like myself who are just learning.
ReplyDeleteI promise to credit you for designing it (you did create this flower right?) :) and I'll be sure to link it back to you once its uploaded.
I've already started filming it, but if you say no, I will delete it. Thanks again for the wonderful pattern, hope to hear from you soon!

Sounds great. Thanks Elle May.
Deletelovely lovely lovely thanks for sharing im so doing this!
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern, thanx alot! I have a question, I want to make a blanket out of daisy granny squares, how much yarn do I need? I want to make a blanket which will be about 150 cm x 200 cm with Paris Drops. Thnx!
ReplyDeleteMandy, I was telling another reader: For the throw size, (I'm guessing a little) it took one partial skein of the yellow and probably 2 skeins each of the white and pink (maybe a little more of the pink). Note: I used Caron One Pound yarn (1 lb = about 1/2 kilo), so it's several pounds of yarn.
DeleteI'm not sure how the Paris Drops yarn works up, (or your tension) but it would be around 3 skeins (150g) of the center color, 10-15 skeins of the petal color and 12-15 of the border color. I would also do few squares and keep track of your yarn. Good luck!
A fantastic and easy tutorial to follow I made my first daisy tonight and I LOVE IT!!!! LOL But now I need to go out and get me some yellow for the centers. XD Thank you for creating the tutorials.
ReplyDeleteI have a massive amount of white yarn I found for a steal at a rummage sale... could NOT pass it up. I recently was given some yellow & white and pastel green & white variegated yarn from my Grammy's stash (perfect for the square part!)... I can't wait to use this pattern to create a lovely spring afghan for my living room!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great when you can find a deal! It's a terrific blanket for the spring!
DeleteHi
ReplyDeleteI love your sampler blankets and this square in particular and have added some of these into a blanket I'm making. I can't find a decent pattern for a 6 inch bobble heart square like the one you have in your samplers and wonder if you could help? Do you sell patterns for some of the other squares?
Thanks
Karen
Thank you for this great tutorial! I started one today.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful. I'm starting it tonight. If you don't mind me asking, how many squares did you make for the throw? Thank you so much for sharing. It's absolutely beautiful .
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking the time to make this tutorial.
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome. Thanks for the acknowledgement (and for stopping by)!
